Be The Detective is a mystery subscription box.
Be The Detective introduces you to a new realistic mystery that unravels over three months. Boxes are $29.99/month or get the entire case with a 3-month subscription for $84.99. There are also six and nine-month subscriptions. Solve the mystery and help bring Claire justice.
A detective will mail you a box of evidence for you to examine and find out who is telling the truth and who is lying. Each story may include veiled details, challenging puzzles, code & ciphers, evidence tie-ins, or dynamic clues. The only items you need are a phone and the internet.
One note about this review. I included pictures of parts of every item in the box, but I am not disclosing a full look at everything so readers can experience the subscription for themselves.
The box is white with the words “Be The Detective” on top.
In this episode, you find out
- Where did the incident occur?
- What is the actual cause of death?
First Look
You get an important black envelope with”Quinn Detective Agency” and a thumbprint embossed in gold.
Information Card
The front of this card gives you tips to explore this box. Remember, this is one episode of three, so keep everything!
The back of the card has a list of all the items you should have in your box. There is a QR code to scan to get extra items.
Letter
There is a letter from Phineas Quinn, a private detective. Phineas has enclosed copies of the evidence in the black envelope. Claire was murdered, and your goal is to find out where someone killed Claire and how to use the evidence. There is a website to get hints and where you can disclose what you have found out.
Journal
There is a copy of Claire's journal, which gives you an in-depth look at what was going on in her life. You also found out about some of the important people in her life. The staple in my journal was slightly off, so I had to remove it to read the entire journal.
Complaint
Claire filed a complaint about another student at the university. Is this person a creep or something more nefarious?
Sketches
One of the suspects sketched these two cards. There was one of Claire after she died. Creepy!
Business Card & Christmas Card
One of the suspect's business cards and a birthday card from the victim's mom & dad were included. I was impressed with the attention to detail from Be The Detective. Helpful tip, if something has a website printed on it, check it out.
Autopsy
The autopsy is nine pages, complete with diagrams. The autopsy is written scientifically, just like the real thing. It's essential to pay attention to the details, so I had to read it several times.
Missing Poster
The photo is Claire and the missing poster that was released to the public.
Interview
The police interviewed one of the suspects, and that four-page interview is in the file.
Final Thought: Wow! What a fun subscription. As a self-obsessed true crime sleuth, I enjoyed devouring every piece of evidence in the box. I felt like I was exploring a real case and solving the mystery. What will episode two will bring? I have so many questions that NEED to be answered. If you love all things true crime, check out Be The Detective.
