A Pup Above is a fresh food subscription box for dogs out of Texas.

You can feel good about giving this to your dog because all the food is human-grade. The vegetables are non-GMO and pesticide-free. The meat is free from antibiotics and hormones. All the food is cooked sous-vide. To cook with this process, fresh ingredients are vacuumed, sealed in BPA bags, then cooked in water for over an hour. The temperature gets to 160 degrees, which kills any germs. The vacuum process ensures that the food holds on to the nutrients. All food is tested before it goes out to make sure it's pathogen-free.

You can sign up for a subscribe and save program, or you can buy from their online store. When you use subscribe and save, you fill out a profile about your pet. Subscriptions start at $16.88/week, depending on the size and bread of your dog.

I was sent the sampler pack for review. The sampler pack is $129.99 for four bags of food. The sampler pack contains (1) three-pound bag of the Turkey Pawella, one (1) three-pound bag of the Texas Beef Stew, (1) three-pound bag of the Chicka Chicka Bow Wow, and one (1) three-pound bag of Porky’s Luau. Each bag contains 1lb sous-vide patties (2 cups of food).

Source Your Ingredients

Each bag's back has a “lot” number that you can enter to find out where all your ingredients are sourced.

Your report will include each ingredient, where it came from, and nutritional facts like non-gmo and pesticide-free.

Recycle Your Packaging

People are often hesitant to subscribe to meal service for themselves or their pets due to packaging waste. A Pup Above offers recycling on their packaging.

The process is simple:

Request your free recycling envelope through the online order form
When the envelope shows up in your mailbox, fill it up with 30 used pouches — you don’t even need to clean them first!*
Drop the prepaid envelope back in the mail to TerraCycle.
Feel good knowing that TerraCycle gives your pouches a second life!

* Pro tip: place the TerraCycle envelope with your used dirty pouches in the freezer until you’re ready to ship. This helps prevent any odors.

The box shipped by FedEx and is recyclable.

There was a caution paper on top because A Pup Above ships with dry ice.

The Food

Porky's Luau This meal contains ground pork, beef liver, rice, pineapple, sweet potato, green bean, vitamins, and minerals. This dish has 633 kcal/patty.

The food comes frozen in paddies. You thaw them overnight, then give your pet the correct portion.

Texas Beef Stew This meal contains beef, beef liver, tomatoes, green peas, carrots, russet potatoes, safflower oil, turmeric, thyme, parsley, minerals. This dish has 580 kcal/patty.

Buddy couldn't wait to eat his A Pup Above food. He comes up to me at meal time, eager for his food.

Chicka Chicka Bow Wow This meal contains chicken, chicken liver, sweet potatoes, spinach, apples, rice, kale, turmeric, thyme, parsley, vitamins, and minerals. This dish has 666 kcal/patty.

Turkey Pawella The turkey patties are made of ground turkey, turkey liver, tomato, rice, green peas, carrots, vitamins, and minerals. Each patty has 590 kcal.

Final Thought: Buddy is currently going through chemo treatment, so I need to give him healthy food. Buddy loves A Pup Above and always looks forward to mealtime.
