Your box will contain a passport, where you can put your stickers from each country you “visit”.

Flag

Flag Your children can learn about Spain's flag. The box shared that it's a popular myth that the red and yellow represent bull fighting.

Candy

Candy The M&M's represent the candy-coated chocolate that soldiers were given during the Spanish Civil War in 1932. The slogan “melts in your mouth, not in your hand” dates back to this time period.

The Chupa Chups were a big hit and one of the first things to disappear from the box. This candy dates back to 1958 from Pilona, Spain and the company is now in 150 countries.

Orange Citrus Smell

Orange Citrus Smell The box had a wonderful orange scent. This scented packet got placed near the the cat's litter box.

Postcard

Postcard This postcard is of Park Guell which is outside of Barcelona, Spain. This is in the Catalan Modernism style and was created by Antoni Gaudi.

Spanish Rice and Postcards
Spanish Rice and Postcards

Spanish Rice and Postcards The spanish rice was included to make cast iron paella. Paella means “frying pan” and comes from Lake Albufera in the 19th century. There were recipes to make a complete dinner!

Dinner:

  • Healthy Homemade Gazpacho
  • Cast Iron Paella
  • Baked Churro Bites
  • Mixed Berry Sangeria

We haven't been able to make this dinner yet, but my kids love homemade churros.

Tile/Cork (Coasters) These coasters are all hand-painted Spanish Mediterranean tiles from Talavera de la Reina. The back is made of cork. Portugal is the largest producer of cork in the world.

Tile Coaster Craft

Tile Coaster Craft Your family can make their own hand painted Talavera Tile. This project takes awhile to complete. First you have to make the dough and let it cook for 2.5 hours, then you paint them and add the cork.

Tile Coaster Craft

Our tiles didn't look the best, but they turned out okay in the end.

Once the dough is baked, you use the stencil to make your design. Both of my boys made one!

The finished coatsters turned out great! Ours were more of a rectangle, so we trimmed the cork a bit. The top of the coaster is coated with clear fingernail polish, to protect the paint.

Pablo Picasso Art Stickers
Pablo Picasso Art Stickers

Pablo Picasso Art Stickers This book contains four pages of Picasso stickers. Each sticker is labeled with the name of the work of art. My kids enjoyed looking of information about several of these.

Tomato

Tomato This is a squishy tomato that represents the La Tomatina festival in Bunol, Spain. This festival takes place in August. This is fun to throw against the wall.

Word Find

Word Find This two-sided card with two-word finds, using many Spanish words.

Memory Card Game

Memory Card Game I loved playing memory as a child. Each picture card has a coordinating description. You match the picture with the description and try to get the most matches to win the game.

The matching game was a great evening activity. We played it twice in a row and only stopped because it was bedtime.
