Grocery Pup April 2019 Review

Grocery Pup April 2019 Review

Grocery Pup is a fresh food subscription box for dogs out of Texas. You can feel good about giving this to your dog because all the food is human-grade, non-GMO, and pesticide free. All the food is cooked sous-vide. To cook with this process, fresh ingredients are vacuumed sealed in BPA bags, then cooked in steam for over an hour. The temperature gets to 160 degrees, which kills any germs. The vacuum process ensures that the food holds on to the nutrients. All food is tested before it goes out, to make sure it's pathogen free.

You can sign up for a subscribe and save program, or you can buy from their online store. When you use subscribe and save, you fill out a profile about your pet. Subscriptions start at $16.88/week, depending on the size and bread of your dog.

I was sent the sampler pack for review. The sampler pack is $89.00 for three bags of food. The sampler pack contains (1) three-pound bag of the Turkey Pawella, one (1) three-pound bag of the Bitchin' Beef Stew, and one (1) three-pound bag of Porky's Luau. Each bag contains 1lb sous-vide patties (2 cups of food)

My box shipped by FedEx and arrived in a large white box. The box looked a bit banged up, but everything in the box was fine.

First Look. The food was packaged in a foam insulated package.

The sampler pack contains three bags of food. Under the bags, there were two bags of dry ice. One of the bags broke open and that's what caused the box to be a bit warped. The bags were very frozen and ice cold.

Invoice

The box came with an invoice from my order.

A colorful brochure was included in the box to explain the subscription, the food, and the ingredients.

This is Buddy, a Beagle, Golden Retriever mix.

Turkey Pawella

Turkey Pawella The turkey patties are made of ground turkey, turkey liver, tomato, green peas, carrots, vitamins, and minerals. Each patty has 543 kcal. All patties are made of 60% meat.

Turkey Pawella

I love the closures of the bags, it's a bit like plastic hook and loop. They are easy to open and close, even with moisture and ice.

Turkey Pawella

Each patty is individually wrapped to prevent any freezer burn. You can see the whole veggies, even in the frozen package. The amount of patties fed to your dog each day depends on their weight.

Feeding Guidelines (Patty Per Day):

  • 5 Ibs: 0.25 patty
  • 10 Ibs: 0.33 patty
  • 15 Ibs: 0.50 patty
  • 20 Ibs: 0.75 patty
  • 40 Ibs: 1.25 patty
  • 60 Ibs: 1.75 patty
  • 80 Ibs: 2.25 patty
  • 100 Ibs: 2.75 patty

Turkey Pawella

Just let the patty thaw overnight and put half the package in the bowl for a serving.

Turkey Pawella

When I opened the door to feed Buddy, he ran right up to eat. I didn't take a photo of him eating, but he loved it. He gobbled it all up in one sitting, which doesn't happen with dry dog food.

Porky's Luau

Porky's Luau

Porky's Luau This meal contains ground pork, beef liver, rice, pineapple, sweet potato, green bean, vitamins, and minerals. This dish has 633 kcal/patty.

I love seeing real food in Buddy's bowl, instead of mystery dry food.

Buddy can't get enough of this food. My husband gave Buddy dry food one morning by mistake, and Buddy came up to me just look at me like, “mom, where is my food”.

Bitchin Beef Stew

Bitchin' Beef Stew

Bitchin' Beef Stew I was a bit surprised by the name, but the ingredients look tasty. The beef stew contains ground beef, beef liver, russet potato, tomato, vitamins, minerals, carrots, and green beans. I figured Buddy would like this one the most, but he loved them all quite equally.

Final Thought: What a wonderful box! Buddy is a rather lazy and relaxed dog, so it's important for me to give him healthy food. Buddy loves Grocery Pup and always looks forward to mealtime. He will finish his bowl in one sitting, rather than graze on dry dog food all day. If you want to try Grocery Pup, use one of the following coupons:
