Adults & Crafts arrived in a large faux wood box.
First Look. This month, the craft is wood burning.
There was a two page direction sheet with details about how to complete the project. The only items you needed from home were an electrical outlet, scissors, pens, and tape.
Here are the materials included in the box!
There were two pages of images and designs you could use on your projects.
‘
There was a practice piece of wood, foam brush, photo holders, and transfer paper. I was a bit confused about the transfer paper at first, because it was much darker than what was shown in the picture.
There was a woodburner in the box, which came with three different tips. This was really easy to use, but it does get very hot.
Once you are done with each of your projects, there was two bottle of DuracClear gloss varnish to gloss each item.
There were three products this month:
- Photo holder
- Set of three coasters
- Box
I have done wood burning DIY crafts before and only received one project, so I was really happy to get three in this box.
This is everything in the box.
Let's get crafting!
I started with getting everything laid out. I didn't elect to use the designs in the box. Instead, I created designed to get created and use ones more custom for our family.
There was a practice piece of wood that you could use to pracice curves and letters. I ended up liking the rounded stick tip, instead of the one included.
Once you have your design, you tape the transfer paper to your project, then lay/tape your design on top. You then trace over the design to create a template to use the woodburner on. I used the other end of a cheap paintbrush. Bubble letters were more difficult, as you had to go around both sides of each letter.
This is what your project will look like once the tracing is complete. This makes it much easier to use the woodburner.
I decided to make my photo holder two sided. I put Disney on one side as our family loves Disney vacations. The photo holders just pressed down into the wood. I did use a mallet to hit them further into the wood.
I put vacation memories on the other side for our “non Disney' vacations. The directions stated to apply the clear gloss over the woodburning part, but I decided to use it all over each project. It ended up looking really nice.
Project 2 was a hinged memory box. I found a free clip art of Mickey hands making a heart.
The box opens up and you can put all kinds of trinkets inside. I plan to put in little memories from our trip.
This is a closer look at the design.
The last project was a set of coasters. We decided to free hand our initial on each on. My husband really wanted to try out the woodburner, so he did one of the coasters.
Final Thought: This was a really fun subscription. My husband and I really enjoyed the woodburning and it's a tool I want to use again on other projects. I liked that Adults & Crafts included three different projects, as well as everything you need to complete them. This was a really fun box and you can use the code CRAFTYMOM to receive free shipping on your subscription.
