This month's box was all about Science! The box came with “My Science Journal”, so children can start to learn about the scientific method.

My Science Journal

There are places to write inside the book about questions, what they will think will happen, and how they researched.

Safety Goggles

The box contained a pair of safety goggles.  T grabbed these and put them on right away.

Experiment 1

Experiment 1 The first experiment was fizzing colors.  Your child drops colored tablets into the test tubes filled with water.  The fizzing of the tablets cause a chemical reaction.  Once the colored water is made, you save it for step 2.

Experiment 1

T watching the tablets fizz.

Experiments 2

Experiments 2 This experiment used the colored water in experiment 1, the pipette and cups. The first steps involved your child learning to use the pipette.  The next steps were to use the pipette to create new colors.

experiment 2

This was a great activity for improving fine motor skills and learning what colors you can form by color mixing. As you can see, T loved this activity.

Experiment 3

Experiment 3 This was a fun activity that we have done before.  You add a different color tablette to each cup of water, then you fold a paper towel and put it in each cup.  The picture below shows what you will create.

Experiment 3

It was taking some time for the colors to go into the empty cups, so we filled them with water.  The colors traveled from the red, blue and yellow cups to make new colors (green and purple). The process of water traveling up the paper towel is called capillary action.

Experiment 4

Experiment 4 In this experiment, your child uses the colors from experiment 3, to make a rainbow.  Your child adds different amounts of sugar to each cup.  Once the colors are mixed, you slowly add them to each other to make a rainbow.

Experiment 4

T also made the suggested color orange, so he would have all colors of the rainbow.  Specific amounts of sugar was added to each cup.

Experiment 4

T added drops of each color and got a pretty good rainbow.  I don't think he stirred every cups enough, which is why there is some blending.

Experiment 5

Experiment 5 Experiment 5 was all about magic gel marbles.  T loved playing with these.  You place the gel marbles in water and wait for them to expand.

Experiment 5

This is a look at the beads.  You only need a few hours for the beads to expand.  I have bought these on Amazon before and the boys have loved playing with the bathtub.  You can use these to experiment what they look like in different colors of water.

Experiment 6

Experiment 6 The last experiment was to make snow!  You just add water to this white powder to make a substance like snow.  What's really neat about this snow, is once you are done, you can let it dry out and use again.

Experiment 6

T added the powder to water in the test tube to make snow.

Experiment 6

T loved playing with the snow and ended up dumping the whole bowl on the table.

Science lab scene.

The last activity in the box was a sticker sheet and science lab scene.  This ended up being a great activity to do while I was cooking dinner.
