Welcome Note

There was a welcome note introducing parents to the subscription.

How to Draw Mr. Toffee

There was a how to lesson on how to draw Mr. Toffee.

There was a little story about Mr. Toffee.  Mr. Toffee wants to see the world. but he is afraid of cars, plans and boats.  Your child's objective this month, is to make a vehicle for Mr. Toffee to travel in.

The Project

The Project:  Children learn how to use water color pencils this month, and blend the colors together.  There were step by step instructions that were really easy to use.

The Supplies

SketchbookSketchbook

There was a sketchbook of plain white paper.  This sketchbook was packed with paper, so your child has many pages to sketch in.

Crayola Watercolor Pencils

Crayola Watercolor Pencils These watercolor pencils are great quality and are in Crayola's fun colors.

Tools

Tools: There was a pencil, fan brush and eraser included in the box.

Owl Pencil Sharpener

Owl Pencil Sharpener This cute little owl will keep your pencil sharp!  Usually, my 7 year old boy won't touch anything pink, but he liked this.

Tablecover

Tablecover This is a first in a children's subscription box.  This plastic cover was sent to protect your work space.  I love that Think with Art recognizes that kids are messy and parents like to protect their space.

Washi tapeWashi tape

There was also some gold washi tape!  You can use this for all kinds of projects.

Stickers

There were also two stickers!

Watercolor Paper

Once your little artist picks a vehicle for Mr. Toffee, they can complete their final piece on this thick piece of watercolor paper.

Completing the Project

Making horizontal lines

One of the first activities, was to make some horizontal lines in the sketchbook then use the fan brush to blend the colors.

Blending two colors

You can make horizontal lines with two different colors, then blend them together.

Background

L practiced some different sketches in his sketchbook, then it was time to complete the final picture.  First, the background was completed.

L's picture

This is L's final picture.  Mr.Toffee is on a bounce bike and wearing a helmet.  The bike has springs instead of wheels, so Mr. Toffee can bounce to his next adventure.

Final Thought: This was a really fun box!  I really didn't know what to expect when I first unpacked the box.  The instructions were easy to follow and the techniques helped when completing the finished project.  L really doesn't like coloring or art, but he had a blast.  He spent well over an hour, sketching, practicing techniques and completing his picture.  This box won over my busy 7 year old boy, so that's pretty high praise.  Think with Art taught my son some good techniques, while making the process fun!
