Bramble Box

Bramble Box ships in a fun looking box.  We save our boxes each month to store our supplies.

Little Pumpkin Cafe

First look.  The theme for this month's theme was “Little Pumpkin Cafe”.  The sticker on the inside of the lid goes in the book from your “welcome kit”.  In this box, you child will learn how pumpkins grow, play pretend in a pumpkin cafe and paint fall leaves.

Information Sheet

The inside lid has an information sheet with all the activities in the box.

From Seed to Pumpkin (Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science 1) This book gives is a very detailed look at how a pumpkin grows, but it's done at a child's level.  Both of my children really enjoy factual books, and the illustrations made this book even more entertaining for my kids.  My 7 year old was able to read this to my 4 year old!

Pumpkin Lifecycle Poster

Pumpkin Lifecycle Poster Once your child reads the book, they can cut out the pictures and place them on the poster.  I cut out the pictures on T's request, and he got to work on the poster.

This is the completed poster.  Your child can choose to glue these down, or save them to play with again.

Baking Supplies Bramble Box sent supplies for your child to make pretend pumpkin and apple pies!  The apple pie involved using basic math skills.

Pumpkin and Apple Supplies

There were three metal tin pans, felt, velcro dots and apple pieces to cut out.

Cups and Cuffs

To go with the play experience, there were two cups with lids and slip on wraps to mark drinks.

Baking Pies

Pie Directions

There were cards for the pumpkin and applies pies, which described how to make each of the pies.  There were tips for the grownup, to help set up each activity.

Assembly Instructions

The other side of the card had assembly instructions for each pie.

Pie Circles

There were three pieces of felt included and directions to make pie circles.  I traced the pie pans and cut out the circles for my 4 year old.  T can cut, but he can't create the smooth circles for the pies.

Pie Filling

T started with the pumpkin pies. He grabbed the measuring cup and chef's outfit from his kitchen toys and got to work.  Each pie received one cup of pie filling.

Pie Tops

The pie top was added to each pie.

Pie Baking

T said each pie needed to be baked, so in the oven they went.  He really gets into his kitchen play.

Finished Pies

Careful, they are hot!

Pumpkin Pies

Whipped cream was added on top as a finishing touch.

Apple Pieces

For the apple pie, velcro dots were added to the recipe card and then to all the numbered apple pieces.  The grownup added various numbered pieces to the recipe, then the child follows follows the recipe with the colored apple pieces.

Making an Apple Pie

Tyler is pretty good with numbers, so we played this game several times.

Pumpkin Cafe Cards

Once the pies were made, your child can set up the cafe.

The Pumpkin Pie Cafe

I filled in the card using the prices and menu items T told me.  There wasn't a dry erase marker included, so I just grabbed one from last month's school box.  I love the price discrepancy between the apple and pumpkin pies.

Pumpkin Cafe

T set up his store and sold me an apple pie and hot chocolate.

Hot Chocolate Cuff

Slipping on the hot chocolate ring.

count with me

This is a bit random, but I wanted to show how much we love Bramble Box.  We keep all the Bramble Boxes in the play area. After the cafe play, T grabbed the United States map and said “Count with me!”. T loves Bramble Box and I think it's his favorite subscription.  He plays with 1-3 different Bramble Boxes several times a week.

Fall Leaves

Color Diffusing Fall Leaves

Color Diffusing Fall Leaves There were several leaves to paint in this craft.  Once the leaves are painted, your child can spray them with water to watch the colors bleed.

Painted Leaves

T painted leaves while I cooked dinner.  It took some time to paint each one, so T hasn't painted them all yet.

Drying Leaves

It didn't take long for the leaves to dry, after spraying them with water.

Fall Leaves

These are the completed leaves T has made so far.  Once all the leaves are completed, Bramble Box gave three suggestions to use with the leaves: fall leaf garland, fall wreath or tape them to a window.

Final Thought: This was one of T's favorite Bramble Boxes.  This box had many different activities to do this month, so your child will not get bored.  I love that this box encourages kids to play and use their imagination.  As stated above, T plays with his Bramble Boxes quite often.  This is not a box that will be played with for a day and forgotten.
