First Look
This month, subscribers will make DIY Book Page Gem Magnets.
When I opened the directions, I was really excited, because I did this craft before! To make this craft, you use your favorite pictures, or pages from books to make little magnets. I did this craft one year as a Christmas presents for my family, and they loved them.
Bonus Craft: There was also a bonus craft, cupcake toppers.
DIY Book Page Gem Magnets
To make the magnets, Hippie Hobby included glass gems, magnets, Mod Podge, book pages, foam brush, and superglue. You also needed scissors and a pencil (not included). I didn't end up using the book pages, so I included the picture of those with the bonus craft below.
I decided to print my own pictures for the magnets. The directions suggested tracing each gem, cutting it out then using Mod Podge. I raided my scrapbooking stash and found a punch that worked just as well. After punching out the pictures, I used Mod Podge to stick them to the gems.
After using the Mod Podge dried, I stick a drop of super glue and stuck the magnet to the back.
Here are my finished magnets. I went for March Madness theme and I liked how these turned out. I couldn't find all the jerseys I wanted, so I had to find a few extra pictures.
Bonus Craft: Cupcake Toppers
For the bonus activity, you create a shape template, trace and cut it out, then use it to make cupcake toppers.
Once again, I used a punch to punch out 24 shapes. You glue or tape the toothpick to one shape, then Mod Podge another shape to it, making a sandwich. You add another layer of Mod Podge to the outside and let it all dry.
Instead of newsprint design, I applied more Mod Podge and dipped it in glitter. You do need to sit the toppers up to dry, so I stuck them in some foam.
