Snakku January 2016 Review
Snakku is a Japanese snack subscription service that is very different from other boxes I have reviewed. Snakku specializes in sending Japanese snacks that you can only get in Japan. All the snacks come from local snack makers in Japan. Boxes are $38.95/month and filled with 10-15 expert curated snacks. If you upgrade to a 3 or 6 month subscription, you will get a free Traditional Japanese Furoshiki Wrapping Cloth.

First Look

This month, the snacks themed around Chidoriya, a snack company in Kyushu. Chidoriya was one of the 1st stores in Japan to use sugar in their treats.
Featured Snacks
Tirolian These sugar rolls cookies are filled with cream: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and coffee. I tried the strawberry and it was fantastic. The cookie part is a bit similar to a thin fortune cookie.
Titrolian Hat This is similar to the Tirolian, but the cream is in between two cookies. Snakku sent one in lemon, strawberry and coffee.
Tirolian Chococrunch They use local milk and butter to make these wafer cookies. The wafers are dipped in chocolate, baked and then dipped again. These are crunchy chocolate wafers that taste similar to an American candy bar.
Hanachidori These soft cakes are filled with bean paste (yellow and mellow white bean). I tried the yellow bean flavor and it was really good. The soft cake was really sweet and the filling really didn't have a strong flavor.
Popular Snacks
Pretz Corn I have had several different kinds of Pretz, but this one was brand new! This is sweet corn flavored, which tasted like buttered corn. It was really weird, but rather good.
Happy Turn These are puffy rice snacks that taste a bit like Senbei, but with an added sweet taste.
Yaki Imo These soft cakes are slightly toasted and filled with real sweet potato.
Kuromame Senbei These senbei crackers are made with baked beans. While I like senbei, I didn't care for the black beans.
Lemon Yogurt Candy This was another really unique candy. The main part of the candy is a lemon hard candy and the bottom layer is yogurt flavored. I don't love yogurt, so these weren't my favorite, but I didn't hate it.
Final Thought: This was my favorite Snakku box so far (I actually said that last month too)! I loved almost all the treats, especially the Tirolian.
