Koala Crate is a subscription for 3-4 year olds. Boxes are $19.95 and filled with a fun magazine and crafts. Koala Crate has a partnership with Highlights magazine, so there are fun articles and activities included in the box. My 3-year-old gets Koala Crate and he loves that he can do crafts just like his older brother. There are not many subscriptions that are appropriate for 3 year olds.
Koala Crate comes in a little yellow box.
First Look. The theme for November is “Storytelling”.
Koala Crate comes with Imagine magazine, which is filled with stories and games.
The projects are all laid out in an instruction booklet.
Each activity has a key to let parents know how messy it is, how much grownup involvement is needed and what skills the child will learn.
Puppet Theater (Messiness: Low, Grownup Involvement: Medium) Your child will make their own little puppet theater. The activity comes with four backdrops and a curtain that goes up and down.
The dry erase board is what the backdrops stick to. The dry erase board also has another use in the box.
For the backdrops, you child just peels and sticks the magnets to the back.
The theater was pretty easy to put together, but I did most of that myself.
Dress Up Puppets (Messiness: Low, Grownup Involvement: Medium) This is another activity that builds on the first. Your child punches out all the magnets and uses those to make puppets for the theater.
There were so many magnets in the box. There were several different children, complete with multiple outfits. There were also animals, modes of transportation and more.
Punching them out was easy and fun.
The puppet sticks were also easy to assemble.
This is the completed theater with puppets. The theater tended to want to tip backwards so I had to put a little weight under the floor of the theater.
ABC Card Game (Messiness: Medium, Grownup Involvement: High)
This activity used the dry erase board, letter cards and a dry erase marker.
The cards have letters on one side and picture on the other. Your child can practice recognizing and naming letters. You child can also draw a picture that begins with the letter shown, and there are more ways to play. The white board can also be a backdrop to he theater, your child just draws their own scene.
Here is a better look at all the cards.
Final Thought: This was a really cute month and this project is one that will be played with again and again. The magnets can also be brought in the car and used on the white board for quiet play. My 3 year old loves magnets and playing pretend, so we have had so much fun playing with this box.
