Kiwi Crate ships in a green box that looks like a crate.
This box was laid out a bit differently this month. Normally, there is a card on top with the two crafts for the month. This month, there was just an instruction booklet.
This month the theme is Treasure Hunt. The two projects this month was a Treasure Chest and a Treasure Map.
There were four bonus imagination maps including this in the box.
The bonus maps were: Ocean Map, Traditional Map, Road Map and Circle Map.
Like other Kiwi Crate instruction booklets, there was a breakdown of each craft and a list of everything you need for the activities.
Treasure Chest: This activity makes a treasure chest and rated low on the messiness scale and medium on the grownup involvement.
The treasure chest is made of interlocking wooden pieces and some sticker hinges.
This is the finished treasure chest. I didn't take any pictures of the process, because it took L and I working together to complete the project. The biggest difficulty is pieces coming apart before they could be secured.
Treasure Maps: For this project, children create a treasure map and have some try to find the treasure chest. This activity was medium on the grownup involvement and low on the messiness scale.
There were four different maps to use for the activity.
Tools: There were also some tools to use for the project. The little x stickers for putting where the treasure is located.
L and I each made a map. Part of the project included making a scale and using a ruler, but L just wanted to draw the map as he liked. I searched for the treasure using his map and vice versa.
Final Thought: I was rather disappointed with this month's theme when I first saw it, but we ended up having fun. The map project can be by younger kids, or older kids can use the scale and ruler to do more detailed maps.
