First Look
Home Chef included a binder to keep all your recipe cards in. I have tried several meal subscription boxes, and this is the first time I received a binder. When I get a meal in a box I love, I hate sorting through all the different cards trying to find the recipe I want. This binder makes storing all the recipes super easy.
Here is a look inside the binder.
There was a two-sided fact sheet that let you know more information about Home Chef.
The Packaging: I was really impressed with Home Chef's packaging. Each meal was in its own labeled bag and the meat was under packs of ice. I received the box early in the day, so I removed the meat and other perishables and put them in the fridge before doing my video review that night. My box was on the counter in my kitchen for 6 hours and when I came back to grab the box for my unboxing, the ice was still frozen.

This is a look at how the meat was packaged. There was plenty of ice packs included in the box to keep my steak and chicken ice cold.
Recipe #1: Filet Mignon with Sauce Bordelaise with Duchess Potatoes and Roasted Broccolini
All the ingredients came fresh and premeasured. The only waste is the empty bottles.
This is a closeup of the broccolini, there was absolutely no dead or discolored places. I really wish I my local grocery store had produce this fresh.
The butter was sealed in its own bag and arrived unsmashed.

I am not an expert in the kitchen, so I appreciated the extra details in the instructions. The only ingredients I needed was olive oil, salt and pepper.
The finished meals. Again, excuse the presentation, as I am not a chef. The steak has the Bordelasie sauce, which was incredible. The steak was tender and juicy just as filet mignon should be, The potatoes don't look like the picture, but they were fantastic. There was more than enough food for two hungry adults.
Recipe #2: Farmhouse Fried Chicken with Buttermilk Mash, Green Onion Gravy and Corn.
Like the previous recipe, everything was pre-portioned and fresh.

The recipe was just as detailed as the filet. I liked how they described how the chicken should look when it was browning. My husband made this meal, since he is a better cook than I am. We followed the recipe with the exception of the chili powder. My husband isn't a fan of spicy food, so he only used half of the chili powder.
This was another fantastic meal. The chicken was really juicy with a crispy coating. I only put gravy around the chicken for one plate as I am a plain Jane kinda girl. This meal was just fantastic down home southern cooking.
Final Thought: I was really impressed with Home Chef. I love their huge menu and I want to pick up a couple of meals next week. All the ingredients were very fresh and the meals turned out as promised. If you are interested in Home Chef, check them out here and use the code SUBBOXMOM to get $20.00 off your 1st box.
