Junior Explorers Mission Bat Caves Review
My son loves Junior Explorers and it's the one box my son will ask about.
When you sign up with Junior Explorers, you will receive a Welcome Kit. Once you have your welcome kit, you will go on various missions. I have reviewed several missions and you can check them out here.
Junior Explorers is a subscription service for children 6-11. Boxes are $19.00/month (plus $2.00 shipping) and each month, your child gets a new online mission, along with a packet of goodies. The goal of Junior Explorers, is to teach kids about the environment and animals, all while keeping things fun.
This month, Junior Explorers has a Halloween Edition that lets your child learn about bats.
There was a little packet of information. First, there was a checklist of things for your child to do.
1. Read Your Mission: There was a cartoon about Mammoth Cave bats and white-nose syndrome.
2. Learn About Bats: There was a fact sheet that gave information about bats and their behavior.
3. Make a bat colony: Using an old milk carton, your child can make hanging bats. Junior Explorers included googly eyes. We just bought a new pack of eggs, so we couldn't do this project yet.
4. Weave a spider web: The next craft was to create a spider clutter. This was an easy and fun craft.
Junior Explorers included a plate, yard and spiders to complete the activity.

5. Collect: A pack of spider tattoos were included.
These were really realistic, too realistic for me.
There was a fold out set of bat facts. L enjoyed learning about bats.
Who Lives Here Book: When you hold the pages up to light, you can see the creatures that live in each habitat. This was really fun at night.
6. Wear Your Wristband: This wristband glows in the dark and this was one of the first things L grabbed.
Go on the Mission!
Subscribers who logged into their accounts found a special mission. In a partnership with NASA, your child can follow the adventures and migrations of Echo the bat, a real bat.
After reading a story about Echo, your child can use various maps to search for Echo. Junior Explorers gives you clues along the way, so you child learns to read a map. There are five different spots where you have to find Echo.

This mission was one of the longest missions we have gone on. We broke it up in a couple parts the day we did the mission. My son learned alot about bats and maps.
Final Thought: This was another really fun month. My son loves Junior Explorers and it is one of his favorite subscriptions.
