Koala Crate is a subscription for 3-4 year olds. Boxes are $19.95 and filled with a fun magazine and crafts. Koala Crate has a partnership with Highlights magazine, so there are fun articles and activities included in the box. My 3 year old gets Koala Crate and he loves that he can do crafts just like his older brother. There are not many subscriptions that are appropriate for 3 year olds.
Koala Crate comes in a little yellow box.
First Look
Koala Crate comes with a little magazine Imagine! Imagine is a mini Highlights Magazine, full of stories, poems and activities.
One of my kid's favorite articles is “That's Silly”. You look at the pages and find all the silly things.
The theme for September is “Playground”.
There is a page overview, that tells you the skills your child will learn, the messiness scale and the level of grownup involvement.
Balancing Seesaw: Using the enclosed materials. your child makes a seesaw that can be used with the beads to practice making it balance. This rates low on the messiness scale and medium on parental involvement.
There was two foam pieces, three wooden see saw pieces and beads.
The base was made with the two side wooden pieces and the green foam piece. T loved doing this himself.
The pegs were made by putting a foam disc above and below the seesaw piece. I had to help hold the peg, so he could put the top yellow piece on. Once it was finished, T really loved playing with it. One note: Once you have an even number of beads on each side, you have to level it and then it will stay balanced.
The finished toy.
Jigsaw Puzzle Using the stackable crayons, your child colors the enclosed puzzles.
The box came with a puzzle featuring Koala Crate characters and stackable crayons.
T didn't spend as long coloring this as he normally does, he really wanted to play with that seesaw.
This is the finished puzzle. We are still working on staying in the lines. Sometimes he cares about staying in the lines, and other times, not so much.
The stackable crayons also work with the seesaw.
Chalk Games: This activity takes the fun outside and uses chalk to play fun games.
The only materials you need for the games is the included chalk (and the beads to be used as rocks for hopscotch). Since it is raining in my neck of the woods and will be for the next few days, we were not able to do the games. Some suggested games are hopscotch, color jump (jump in different colored shapes), and shadow tracing. T loves outside, so as soon as the rain stops, we will be playing with the chalk.
Final Thought: This was a really fun month. The seesaw was such a cute project and loves playing with it. Even my 6 year old tried it out. All the projects in Koala Crate are fun and age appropriate. T was able to do much of this entire box with little help from me. Right now Koala Crate has a fantastic deal.
