Carnivore Club ships in a box designed to look like a cutting board. The box actually shipped in a polymailer bag, but I didn't include a picture of it.
There is a brochure with the box that lists the featured supplier of the month. This month, featured supplier is Braaitime, which is based out of New York and specializes in South African meats.
Inside the brochure there is descriptions of each meat in the box. The featured meat this month is Biltong, which is seasoned strips of meat. The meat is curred and spiced using a blend of vinegar, salt, sugar, coriander and other spices. The practice of making biltong has been around hundreds of years.
Venison Biltong: This is made from 100% lean dried Venison. These are chewy pieces of venison with a slight bitter taste. The lean meat made these bites very easy to chew.
Chili Bites: These are long strips of biltong, that are seasoned with South African spices and chili. These are not as spicy as I expected them to be, even my husband enjoyed them, and he hates spices. This had a more smoky pepper taste, rather than a jalapeno taste. This was my favorite meat in the box, they make a perfect snack.
Chorizo Droewors: These sausages are made with Spanish paprika, tender beef, and all natural lamb casings. These were almost crunchy and had a spicy kick. I prefer the chili in the bites over the paprika in these sausages.
Biltong: These chewy pieces of biltong have a nice garlic flavor. It's a very mild tasting meat and very easy to chew.
Biltong Slab: This slab is cured in brine and is quite hard to chew. The brochure states you can take a bite from the slab, but my husband tried, and said the slab was much too tough. After some series cutting, we were able to try a piece. I felt this tasted too much of brine, while my husband felt it wasn't too bad.
This is a look at the Biltong Slab.
Final Thought: I have reviewed Carnivore Club a few times, and this box was the most unusual of all of them. While I am not generally a fan of charcuterie and jerky, I was pleased to discover some great meat in this box. The chili bites turned out to be my favorite and it's something I would buy in a store, when available. My husband really enjoyed this box and is quite the fan of this subscription.
