What do Diane Sawyer, Muhammad Ali, and the Kentucky Derby have in common, they all come from Louisville, Ky. Louisville, pronounced LOO-ih-vuhl by locals, is home to more than celebrities and sports. There are many yummy foods and fantastic local artists in Louisville. Go Local Box is a new subscription box that wants to introduce everyone, to all the great things Louisville, Ky has to offer. I grew up not far from Louisville, so I was really excited to see this subscription. Go Local Box is $35.00 a month, and each box is filled with 4-6 locally made items.
The Details:
Cost: $35.00/month, 3 Months is $33.00/month, 6 Months is $30.00/month.
Coupon: Use the coupon GOLOCAL to save $10.00 on your subscription.
What's in the box? Each box contains 4-6 locally made items from Louisville, Ky and the surrounding area. Some of the items you may receive are: baked goods, coffees, sodas, soaps, books, music and more.
Shipping: Go Local Box ships to the continental United States and ships FREE.
Cancel or Skip: You can cancel or skip right from your account.
Go Local Box shipped by USPS and came in a brown box with the Go Local Box printed on top. I really like cute packaging. The first thing I noticed, was the box was really heavy.
First Look: I loved the the cute packaging. There was a little Kentucky wooden pendent tied with twine.
There was a two sided information card in the box. Go Local Box gave information about each product, along with the web addresses, to find out more from the companies. I always appreciate when a subscription box gives the web address for a company, so I don't have to “Google”.
Paradise Island Tea: This is a new tea company right out of Louisville, Ky. Their first flavor was Passion, and now they have a whole line of teas. This is Passion Ginger tea and my husband really enjoyed it. This sweet tea has added ginger flavor and makes for a refreshing beverage. This is a 20 oz bottle, so it was a nice size bottle of tea.
Kizito Cookies 2 @ $2.00 each I have fond memories of Kizito cookies. Elizabeth Kizito “the cookie lady” can always be found at the Ky State Fair with a basket of cookies on her head. Every year at the fair, I always get a Kizito cookie. Go Local Box sent a pecan and chocolate chip. I ate the chocolate chip cookie and it was super soft and tasty, just as I remember from the fair.
Louisville Sauce Co Original Jerk: $5.95 This sauce has won multiple awards and it's easy to see why. This is a combination of Caribbean Jerk spices and southern barbecue flavors. This is a very sweet sauce with a big kick. You can use this on ribs, wings, chicken or just as a really good dip. I didn't have a meat to try this with, so I tried with with some chips, and it was fantastic.
Najla's Body Good Bars 2 @ $2.45 each These bodygood bars are made with whole ingredients. I can pronounce every single ingredient on the back, so these were a nice addition to the box. I received chocolate cherryberry (gluten free) and Gluten Free Nut Free Vegan bar. Both of these bars are a great source of nutrition and filled with great ingredients like dried apricots, cranberries, pumpkin seeds, and oats.
Preferred Popcorn Jalapeno: I love popcorn and I am always glad to get some in subscription boxes. Preferred Popcorn is made in western Kentucky by the Winstead and Hornback families. This popcorn can be found locally in Kroger, but I haven't found it for sale online. This popcorn is non GMO and doesn't have any trans fat. This comes in cheese, extra butter and jalapeno. Jalapeno wouldn't be my first choice, but my boys and I will try it.
Woodwear by Andrea State Outline Chain Necklace $12.00 This is made with recycled baltic birch wood and is handmade by Andrea. The necklace came with an 18″ chain that matches the necklace. You can be Kentucky Proud wearing this necklace.
This is a close up of the necklace. I love the details on this necklace and I admire Andrea's work.
Final Thought: I couldn't get a full retail value of this box, but I think it will work out to around the $35.00 cost. I think this is a very reasonable value for this type of box. Not all the products are available everywhere and there would be shipping costs for most of the products purchased online. Despite being familar with the Louisville area, I only knew of one product in the box. Go Local Box is a great box for Louisvillians (yes, that's a real term), or anyone who wants to learn about all the great things Louisville has to offer.
