iHeartMD ships USPS and comes in a bright red box. Very fitting with a healthy heart theme.
Inside the box was another box. This is a nice sturdy box that can be reused for storage or a gift box.
IHeartMD made a great first impression. I love how the information card coordinates with the packaging.
The information card includes information about each product. IHeartMD also includes key ingredients, healthy benefits, iHeartMD Notes, and the website.
Mary's Gone Crackers $1.25. key ingredients: Whole grain brown rice, Quinoa, Flaxseeds. Health benefits: low cholesterol, plant based Omega-3 fatty acids. iHeartMD notes: a healthy, baked and organic snack alternative to traditional crackers. These were good, but had a little too much of a toasted taste for me. My 23 month old loves these.
TeeChia Super Seeds Cereal $3.50 key ingredients: chia seeds, quinoa, cranberries, and apples. Health benefits: plant based omega 3 fatty acids, fiber. iHeartMD notes: A low calorie breakfast or snack alternative to traditional oatmeal. I haven't had a chance to try these, but it looks really tasty.
Musco Family Olive Co. Pearls, Black Pitted Olives $1.00 est I couldn't find these for sale online, so I made an educated guess. Key Ingredients: Olives. Health benefits: Vitamin E. IHeartMD Notes: A low calorie snack alternative or recipe ingredient. I personally dislike olives, so this snack doesn't work for me. My husband likes olives, so these are all his.
Naked Wines only ships to 32 states: AK, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, KS, LA, MA, MD, ME, MN, MO, NE, NV, NH, NY, NJ, NM, NC, ND, OH, OR, SC, TN, TX, VT, VA, WA, WI, WV, WY, MT. Unfortunately, my state is not one listed, so I can't use this gift card. You must buy 6 bottles at a time. The cheapest wine I found was Carmen Stevens' Angels Reserve Shiraz 2012. It is $8.50 a bottle and there is a $19.99 shipping fee. The cheapest you can get wine with the gift card is $20.99 for 6 bottles. This is a great deal, if you like this kind of wine and you are in a state they ship to. I wish iHeartMD would have included something that everyone could use. Health Benefits: To improve the balance between your LDL cholesterol (the “bad cholesterol) and HDL cholesterol (the “good” cholesterol) by increasing the HDL level. Also mild inhibition of blood clotting. iHeartMD Notes: Cabernet Savignon, Petit Syrah and Pinor Noir 4oz- 1 serving. Women: 1 serving a day. Men: 1-2 servings a day.
iTrain gift card This is a $50.00 gift card to iTrain. They have exercises starting at 99 cents, so you can get alot of workouts with this gift card. iHeartMD Notes: iHeart recommends regular exercise. At the very least 30 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity at least 5 days per week, for 150 mins. OR At least 25 mins of vigorous aerobic activity at least 3 days a week for a total for 75 mins and some moderate to high intensity muscle strengthening activity at least 2 or more days per week for additional health benefits. I like this gift card, but not everyone uses online gift cards. I hope iHeartMD includes other ways to implement exercise in future boxes.
Ghiradelli Intense Dark 72% Cacao Twilight Delight Squares $1.00 Key Ingredients: Cocoa. Health Benifits: Flavonoids. iHeartMD Notes: To get the heart benefits from chocolate, look for treats with 70% or more cocoa. A study in 2010 said 6g of chocolate (half a piece in this box) may decrease your risk of heart attack and stroke. Further studies are needed to validate these claims. I could use any excuse to eat chocolate, so this is a win for me.
Matt's Munchies Premium Fruit Snack, Apple-licious $2.16 Key ingredients: Apples. Health Benifits: Vitamin C. iHeartMD Notes: It's best to eat whole fruit, to retail the fiber and other nutrients. This is a fun, creative and minimally processed snack alternative. This is really tasty and is like a healthy fruit roll up. My kids and I all really liked it. It only has 35 calories, no gmos and 1 serving of fruit per package.
Final Thought: The total value with gift cards is $108.91. Since my state doesn't accept ship from Naked Wines, the value for me is $58.91. I do think there needs to be a better balance between product and gift cards. I don't like gift cards that don't include all states or have higher purchase requirements (Naked Wines). I see these type of gift cards as coupons. I love the idea behind iHeartMD and think they provide some useful information to maintain a healthy heart. I hope in future boxes, there will be more product and less gift cards, as many people don't use the gift cards. My favorite food item in the box was the Matt's Munchies, and I will be buying more of this product. Full size products of the foods would be great to see. I look forward to seeing more iHeartMD and hope they make a few changes. I do like the online content component and the ability to ask questions to a cardiologists. This is adds more value to this box. If you are interested in iHeartMD, click HERE.
