My Bake Box Review

I did a survey recently, and asked what box do you wish existed.  The most popular answer (see the results HERE) was a baking box!   I did some research and found a baking box.  A bake box sends at least one high quality baking ingredient plus decorating tools to make cupcakes.  Each month is a new flavor with fun items.  Bake Box was very generous and sent me a box to review.  I must admit, I am not a great cook. I was a bit nervous about getting this box.  Prior to this box, I had never made cupcakes with homemade icing.  Read on to see if I burned the house down.

The Details

What's in the box: “Every month you'll receive at least one high-quality baking ingredient selected to enhance your recipe and introduce you to new flavors! You'll always have enough to complete that month's recipe and possibly more! In addition, you'll receive items to decorate and finish your cupcakes such as wrappers, decorating sugars, toppers, etc.”

Salted Oatmeal Toffee Cupcakes with Whipped White Chocolate Buttercream
The recipes had very basic ingredients.  I had to go buy most of them, because remember, I don't cook.  I liked that the unique ingredients were included in the box: toffee bits, white chocolate waffers, and organic quick rolled oats (this may be not that unusual).
The recipes were also well written and very easy to follow.  I don't like complicated recipes.

The Process
As I told you before, I was nervous about baking.  After staring at the box for a few days, I decided to dive in.  I collected all the ingredients and got to work.  The recipes were very easy to follow.  Each step was very descriptive and it was almost impossible for me to mess it up.  Here is one of the steps “Scoop the batter into the lined muffin tins, filling about 2/3 way (cupcakes will peek slightly in the middle, allow for the at space so you don't have spiked cupcakes).”  The icing was the most difficult part.  My husband helped me a bit with the icing.  I had trouble mixing the ingredients without the flour flying everywhere.  I did use cold butter instead of room temperature.  It would have probably would have been easier, if the butter had been softer.  I went to ice the cupcakes and I had to think if you put the decorating tip in the bag, or over the bag (I told you I don't back).  I figured out it went in the bag.  It was a bit tricky to put the icing on, but I did it.  I think the finished product turned out pretty good.
Final Thought I really liked this box.  I can't believe I was able to make cupcakes and icing.  This was a fun box and I liked that I didn't have to buy ingredients that I might only use once.  I also like that I got a decorating tip that I can use again.  If you are interested in subscribing, go to http://www.mybakebox.com/
