My Sensory Box is an exciting new subscription box for kids. This is not your ordinary subscription box for kids. As a mom of a toddler and a preschooler, it is important, for me to give my children the tools to grow into big thinkers. I try to avoid toys with lots of bells and whistles and prefer my children to use their imaginations. I was thrilled to be able to review My Sensory Box. Sensory Boxes are a great way to help your child develop their cognitive, social, emotional, physical, creative and speech skills. Sensory boxes are a great way to help your child's self esteem. There are no rules, no instructions with My Sensory Box. All your child needs is his/her imagination.

This is how the box comes (I tore off the label) |
I love that My Sensory Box ships Priority Mail. I think it is worth the $3.00 shipping charge to get my box in a couple days. I hate stalking my mailbox for boxes!
First Look |
I love the cute hand print sticker
The Box Contents |
The box was full of fun stuff! I loved all the bright colors. The rice spilled out a bit, but it was easy to pour into the container |
All the Sensory Items |
There were lots of sensory items in the box: measuring spoons, scoops, number beads, a lace, large dice, connecting blocks, number tiles, colored rods, geometric shapes, and colored bears.
Rice |
There was a large amount of rice! Part it was colored, that added another interesting feature

All the items in the container |
I put all the items in the container (I use a 15 qt container) and I instantly wanted to play! I decided to get my two boys involved for the test.
The Test
L is 4 and T is 17 months. The box is not advised for children under 3 due to small parts. I made sure to closely watch T, and ensure he didn't eat anything. I put a sheet of paper under the box to help collect the rice. My Sensory Box advised using a sheet to help contain the rice.
Play Time! |
L and T had a great time playing with the box. T is a bit young for it. He wanted to scoop the rice and dump it on the floor. L loved the box. He liked scooping from the big cups to little ones and vice versa.
Lacing |
L is really good with fine motor skills. I liked how there was ways to work fine motor skills: Lacing, small blocks (connecting and disconnecting), and lining up the bears or tiles.
Both Playing together |
It was great to have a toy that both boys could play together. T liked the small connecting blocks. He was able to pull them apart and put them back together again. L helped practice his colors and number recognition. L normally doesn't like practicing “school stuff”, but this box made it fun.
I suggested some learning activities with L, but I mainly let him play and discover on his own.
My Sensory Box included some ideas to explore the box. string the numbers, create color patterns with the bears, arrange the rods from tallest to shortest, and encourage your child to use the vocabulary: more / less, heavier / lighter, full / empty when exploring their math box.
Final Thought: My Sensory Box is a great box for children. I have always wanted a sensory box for my boys, but they are time consuming to make and expensive to gather all the materials. I love that My Sensory Box gathers all the appropriate items together and curates it to a theme. Their customer service has been outstanding. I casually mentioned my rice leaked out, and they are working to improve that. This is a really great box and well worth the $29.95 (plus $3.00 shipping). My boys loved playing with the box. L has even played with it several times since I received it. If you are interested in signing up for My Sensory Box, go to http://www.mysensorybox.com
