As I mentioned in my previous post, Taste Trunk is a brand new food company that send out four different trunks (boxes) a month.  Each box is filled with 5-10 carefully chosen products and costs $29.00.  In addition, Taste Trunk also sends discount coupons, background on the companies, and recipe ideas.  There are four themed trunks : Healthy, Sweet, BBQ, and Gourmet.  I chose the BBQ trunk to try this month.

The Details:

Cost: $29.00 a month but save 25% on your 1st trunk by using Boxmom25 in the promo code field and putting “Erin Hamm” in the special instructions area.
Charge Date: 1st of the Month and each month automatically unless you cancel.
When do I get my box: Around the 15th of the month
Contact info: [email protected]
To Cancel: Email them above (They have quick responses) by the 25th of the month

The box arrived shipped in a priority shipping box.  The first thing I noticed about the box was that it was very heavy.  I love a heavy box, as it usually means there is lots of good things in it.  The Taste Trunk itself is beautifully packaged.  Everything is in a white box with a wax seal on the top.  Upon opening the Taste Trunk, my nose was met with a bouquet of wonderful spices.  I am not big cook, but the smells from the box make me want to fire up my grill.  When I opened the box, there was a small package wrapped in ribbon (the cards).  The contents of the box was wrapped in black tissue paper and neatly wrapped with a ribbon.  I unwrapped the cards and was immediately impressed the quality of the card.  There are stories about the products and recipes printed on the cards.  The cards look very nice and not cheaply printed..

This is what was in my box:

This is how the box looks
First Look.  I love the beautiful packaging
All the items were carefully packaged.  The hot sauce and BBQ sauce was wrapped in bubble wrap to protect in shipping
The card: There are 7
Afire North White Cedar Mini Grilling Plank $12.99  These wooden planks are for use on your grill.  These add a sweet smoky flavor to seafood, meats, fruits and vegetables.  You need to soak these in water for 2 hours before cooking.

There was a recipe included to make salmon filets.  You slather the wood plank in olive oil then put the salmon on some raw onions.  You then place everything on the wood plank and put some sliced lemons on top.  These sound wonderful and I am added this recipe to my meal plan this week.

Community Spice Company Tale Gator Spice Rub $5.00 This spice rub is perfect for meats but can also be used to make a Bloody Mary (even without alcohol).  There was a recipe for the Bloody Mary on the card.  This spice has a wonderful smell.  The company also gives back to charity.  When you buy a product from their online store, you can choose where they give back.

These are the ingredients for the spice rub: organic raw demerara sugar, redbell pepper, greenbell pepper, peas, guajillo chili, black pepper, organic sea salt, tomato powder, carrot, spanish paprika, california chili, red chili flakes, turmeric, corn oil.

Bone Doctor's BBQ $6.99 This BBQ is made using natural ingredients.  There are no preservatives, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavoring or coloring.  I haven't got to taste it yet, but the sauce looks very tasty.

This company was founded 27 years ago by two orthopedic surgeons, whom both loved to cook. They wanted to make quality sauces without preservatives, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavoring or coloring

Miners Mix Salmon Marinade $5.49  This company slogan is “If it didn't exist in 1850, it ain't in here.”  This is an all natural marinade with no MSG.  The ingredients are basil, garlic, lemon juice powder, and black pepper.  You only need to marinade your fish for 10-15 mins before cooking!  This marinade also smells fantastic!

Miners Mix came from a man Joshua Shelby.  He was a cook in a St Louis restaurant in 1849.  The California gold rush hit and Shelby decided go west.  He settled in what is now Yosemite National Park.  He found a little gold but got tired of the hard work.  Shelby took a job as a gold camp cook and eventually became quite famous for  “good ol' fashioned home cooking”.  The Miners Mixes come from Joshua Shelby's own handwritten journals.

Mexico Lindo Habenero Green Hot Sauce (Price unknown) I wasn't able to find the price of this online.  The company's website is in Spanish.  This hot sauce is made with no artificial additives, no msg and is gluten free!  Included in the cards is a recipe for Tamale Casserole.

Included in the cards was information about the Andiron Seaside Inn and Cabins.  It is in Mendocino, Ca.  The card will save you 15% on your stay.  Check out the cabins at www.theandiron.com .

Final Thought: I was really impressed with this box. The total value is $36.47 (giving an estimate of $6.00 for the hot sauce).  This was well worth my money. This company has taken extra care to prepare a great box.  Everything in the box was beautifully presented.  There was detailed information on the cards about the products.  I never eat salmon, but the spices in this box make me want to try it.  The only hard part will be decided what recipe to try first!  What trunk do you want to try?
